Dosa is a popular breakfast among people of South India and Sri Lanka.Please see my soft Idli video to refer for making dosa batter.


1.Iddli rice-2 cup
2.Urud dal-1/2 cup
3.White poha-1/2 cup
4.Fenugreek seeds-1 tbsp
5.Cooked rice-2tbsp
6.Salt-to taste


1.Ingredients 1 and 2 wash and soak seperately for 5 to 6 hours.
2.Ingredients 3 and 4 wash and soak for an hour
3.Grind urud dal to a fine paste by adding minimum water and keep aside.
4.Grind poha,fenugreek seeds and cooked rice to a fine paste by adding little water.Add this puree to Urud dal paste.
5.Grind rice with water(water should be just above the level of rice)Mix it with the batter kept aside.
6.Mix the batter using your hand
7.Keep it in a warm place overnight for fermentation
8.Once it is fermented,add salt to taste and mix well.
9.Add water if necessary to get the pouring consistency for dosa(it shouldn’t be too thick)
10.On a hot greased pan pour batter and make dosa.
